DRIVER QUALIFICATIONS

To drive for us, you must:

• Have a current class A CDL with HAZ MAT endorsement issued from the state in which the driver resides
• Be at least 24 years of age
• Have a working telephone number
• Pass a physical and drug screen
• Have one year verifiable Over-the-Road Tractor/Trailer experience within the past 3 years
• Must be capable of performing all phases of Baylor Trucking policies
• Give permission for a credit check
• No record of involvement in more than 2 "at fault" traffic accidents while operating a motor vehicle during the past 36 months

Baylor Trucking Owner Operators cannot have any of the following convictions or citations within the past 60 months:

• Felonies
• Reckless Operation
• Serious Traffic Offense
• Suspension (from conviction while operating a vehicle)

PAY SCHEDULE FOR INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS    

The Mileage Compensation program for Baylor Trucking is as follows for all authorized miles per contract, Loaded and Unloaded:

• 94 cents per mile for Solo Operators for ALL MILES from 0 to 2500 
  earn $1.00 per Mile for Miles 2501 - 3000

     Paid By PC MILER/PRACTICAL MILES

• 96 cents per mile for Team Operators for ALL MILES up to 5000
   earn 97 cents per mile for all miles 5001 and up

• $50.00 for the second stop and $60.00 for each intermediate stop
• $1,200 escrow-can be deducted in 10 payments

Baylor Trucking Owner Operators are required to have an Escrow of $1,200.00.

INSURANCE

All Independent Contractors must provide a copy of Bobtail Liability. We request that Baylor Trucking, Inc. is listed as certificate holder. Baylor Trucking has a program available for Independent Contractors at a rate of $44.00 monthly.

Additionally, we offer a program for Physical Damage Insurance. Insurance payments can be deducted monthly. Please email blamaster@baylortrucking.com for rate quotes and insurance inquiries.

All Independent Contractors must provide a copy of your Workman's Compensation.  We request that Baylor Trucking is listed as a certificate holder.  Baylor Trucking also has a program for provide alternative coverage for you at a cost of $42.50 deducted weekly.

PRE-LEASE REQUIREMENTS FOR NEW OWNER OPERATOR

All trucks must meet the following requirements before the truck can be leased on at Baylor Trucking.  There is no charge for pre-lease inspection.  Owner Operator tractors cannot be over 6 years old.

• Federal DOT Inspection not older than 90 days
• Fifth wheel no higher than 48 inches
• Tractor cannot weigh more than 19,500 lbs. with half tanks of fuel (must have proof with current weigh ticket)
• Must have air dryer
• Must have 2 load locks
• Steer tires with no less than 4/32 tread
• Drive tires with no less than 2/32 tread
• Possess the necessary safety equipment including; fire extinguisher and triangle reflectors
• Meet all standards of Baylor Trucking inspection sheets
• Must have a working fuel heater

Additionally, before a lease can be signed Independent Contractors must: 

• provide a copy of Title or Application for Title with the Independent Contractor named as Owner
• provide a copy of a Current Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax (2290) that must be stamped paid by the IRS and display the VIN number of the truck

ORIENTATION FOR INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS

All approved applications attend a 2 ½ day orientation, you will:

• Pass a drug screen
• Take a road test
• Pass a DOT physical
• Receive classroom training on policy and procedures
