DRIVER QUALIFICATIONS

To drive for us, you must:

  • Have a current CDL (HAZ MAT certification is a plus)
  • Be at least 24 years of age
  • Have 6 months of recent verifiable over-the-road tractor/semi experience or if a student, be a graduate of a certified trucking school
  • Pass a physical, and drug screen
  • Have no more than 2 minor accidents or 1 major preventable accident in the past 36 months
  • Have no more than three moving violations in the past three years
  • Have had no more than six jobs in the past three years
  • Have no criminal record or felonies
  • Fulfill the functions of the job as a professional driver
  • Meet DOT requirements; deliver on time, be safe, and be legal
  • Have no prior record of DUI in commercial motor vehicle and only 1 DUI in personal vehicle in the past five years


ORIENTATION

We provide transportation, lodging and lunch each day. We pay $50.00 per day for orientation.  All approved applications attend a three-day orientation, you will:

  • Pass a drug screen
  • Take a road test
  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Receive classroom training on policy and procedures


EQUIPMENT

Our fleet currently includes conventional Freightliners and Internationals with standard 10 speed transmissions. The average age of our well maintained equipment is two years.  Our entire fleet provides air ride suspension, air ride cabs, AM/FM cassette stereo, air conditioning and power steering.  Our trailers are 53-foot dry vans. We use Qualcomm communications and have a first rate maintenance program.  No slip seating.


MISCELLANEOUS PAY

Baylor offers a Tuition Assistance Program that allows a driver to earn an additional $150.00 per month for 18 months.  This program begins after a driver is assigned his/her own unit.

At various times of the year, Baylor Trucking offers different incentive plans.  These may include but are not limited to: referral pay, recruiting bonuses.  Please check with the Baylor recruiter for current promotions and details.

Baylor Trucking has company trucks with teams. The more experienced driver of the team determines the team rate.  This is our schedule per team driver:

LAYOVER PAY

We will do our best to minimize layovers.  We will make every effort to make sure your load is ready.  However, when they occur, we compensate you.  Drivers are paid $50.00 layover pay for the first 36 hours.  They receive an additional $50.00 for each 24-hour period thereafter.  Company teams receive $30.00 each for the same time period.


LOADING/UNLOADING PAY

Typically, loading and unloading freight is paid at a rate of $1.50 per 1000 pounds, with a minimum of $40.00 for a full trailer.  Some of our customers that require assistance pay more.


CONGESTION PAY

Delivery within New York City zip codes 100-119 will be $80.00


VACATION FOR COMPANY DRIVERS

Paid vacation time is accrued by the following schedule:                               

After one year continuous service   - 1 week paid vacation                  

After 2 years of continuous service  - 2 weeks                           

After 10 years of service- 3 weeks                                            

After 20 years of service- 4 weeks

After 25 years of service- 5 weeks

Vacation pay for drivers after 1 year of service is $500.00, after 2 years of service $550.00 and after 3 years of service it is 1/52 of the previous year base up to $650.00.


PAYCHECKS

All Driver pay is PAID WEEKLY VIA DIRECT DEPOSIT OR PLACED ON YOUR COMDATA CARD.


HEALTH INSURANCE, DENTAL & VISION

Baylor Trucking pays a portion of your Health Insurance cost; the unpaid portion will be the responsibility of the employee. Full coverage includes a prescription drug card.  Health Insurance eligibility begins on the first day of a new month after 60 days of service.  After 5 years of service with Baylor Trucking your rates decrease.  Effective November 1, 2004, the cost for health insurance is as follows:

Effective May 8, 2000 all employees are eligible for $50.00 reimbursement on dental services and $50.00 reimbursement on vision services.


RETIREMENT PLAN

After completing one year of service, drivers are eligible to participate in this thrift plan starting at the next enrollment date. Employees can contribute from 2%-5% of their gross earnings and Baylor will match 100% of that contribution.


PASSENGER PROGRAM

Drivers are allowed only one passenger at a time. The passenger must be:  an immediate family member of at least 9 years of age or a passenger of 18 years of age.  In all cases, before a passenger gets into the truck, the driver must receive permission from the Baylor Safety Department.
